What Is a UFO High Bay Light?

A UFO high bay light is a round LED high bay fixture with a compact die-cast or forged aluminum housing. Its circular design combines the LED light source, driver, heat sink and optical system into a relatively small fixture that can be suspended from high ceilings.

Compared with traditional metal halide high bays, modern UFO LED high bay lights can provide high lumen output with lower power consumption, instant start, better optical control and easier integration with dimming and occupancy sensors.

The round design is particularly suitable for open spaces where relatively symmetrical light distribution is required.

Where Are UFO High Bay Lights Used?

UFO high bays are commonly used in:

  • Warehouses and storage facilities
  • Factories and manufacturing plants
  • Industrial workshops
  • Logistics and distribution centers
  • Maintenance facilities
  • Supermarkets and retail warehouses
  • Exhibition halls
  • Aircraft hangars
  • Gymnasiums and indoor recreational facilities
  • High-ceiling commercial buildings

For warehouse projects involving rack aisles, open storage zones and different ceiling heights, see our warehouse lighting fixture selection guide.

60W to 600W UFO High Bay LED Lights

REITA provides a wide range of UFO high bay wattages. The correct wattage should be selected according to lumen output, mounting height, beam angle, target illuminance and fixture spacing rather than wattage alone.

Power Range Typical Project Use
60W–100W Lower high-bay mounting positions, workshops and smaller commercial areas
100W–150W General warehouses, factories and storage facilities
150W–200W Medium-height warehouses and industrial buildings requiring higher lumen output
200W–240W Taller warehouses, wider fixture spacing and higher lighting requirements
250W–300W Large industrial halls and higher-ceiling applications
400W–600W Very high ceilings, aircraft hangars and heavy industrial facilities

These ranges are starting references rather than fixed design rules. A high-efficiency 200W fixture can produce substantially more light than an older or lower-efficacy 200W high bay.

100W, 150W and 200W UFO High Bay Lights

100W, 150W and 200W are among the most commonly specified UFO high bay power levels for warehouse and industrial lighting.

100W UFO High Bay

A 100W UFO high bay can be suitable for lower mounting heights, workshops, storage areas and projects where moderate illumination is required.

150W UFO High Bay

150W models are widely used for general warehouse and factory lighting. Depending on the selected REITA platform and luminous efficacy, different lumen packages are available for project optimization.

200W UFO High Bay

200W UFO LED high bays are commonly selected for medium-to-high warehouse ceilings, larger fixture spacing or projects requiring higher illumination.

The HGB6 Series offers 200W configurations with multiple efficacy and beam-angle options, while the HBG3 Series provides power-selectable configurations for projects requiring inventory and installation flexibility.

Choose the Right Beam Angle

Beam angle affects how the light from a UFO high bay reaches the floor and working plane.

Beam Angle Typical Application
60° Higher mounting positions and more concentrated downward illumination
90° General warehouse, factory and industrial high bay lighting
110°–120° Lower mounting heights and wider open-area coverage

The best beam angle also depends on fixture spacing, ceiling height, aisle width and target lux level.

For a more detailed explanation of these relationships, see our warehouse lighting layout, spacing and mounting height guide.

High-Efficiency UFO High Bay Lights

Luminous efficacy is an important consideration for warehouses and factories operating lighting for long periods.

Selected REITA UFO high bay configurations are available with efficiency levels ranging from approximately 150 lm/W up to 200 lm/W, depending on the product platform and configuration.

Higher efficacy can reduce the electrical power required to achieve a specific lumen output, but project buyers should evaluate more than lumens per watt.

Important specifications include:

  • Total lumen output
  • Beam angle and photometric distribution
  • Input voltage
  • Driver quality
  • Power factor
  • Surge protection
  • Color temperature
  • CRI
  • IP and IK protection
  • Operating temperature
  • Dimming and control compatibility

UFO High Bay Lights with Motion Sensors and Dimming

Warehouses and logistics centers often contain areas that are not continuously occupied. Motion sensors and dimming controls can reduce unnecessary operating hours while maintaining adequate illumination when workers or vehicles enter the zone.

Depending on the REITA UFO high bay series, available options can include:

  • 0–10V dimming
  • 1–10V dimming
  • PIR motion sensors
  • Microwave sensors
  • Daylight sensors
  • Sensor-ready interfaces
  • Zhaga interfaces
  • Bluetooth control
  • Zigbee control
  • Tuya APP control
  • Emergency backup options on selected models

The HGB6 UFO LED High Bay provides the widest range of smart-control options within the current REITA UFO high bay family.

120–277V and 277–480V UFO High Bay Lights

Input voltage must be confirmed before ordering industrial high bay lighting.

Many REITA UFO high bay products are designed for commercial and industrial AC100–277V or AC120–277V systems, depending on the series.

For industrial projects requiring higher supply voltage, the HBG1 High-Power UFO High Bay is available with an optional AC277–480V configuration.

Always provide the actual project voltage and frequency when requesting a quotation.

UFO High Bay vs Linear High Bay

UFO and linear high bays should not be selected only by fixture appearance.

UFO high bay lights are generally well suited to open warehouse floors, factories, workshops and other spaces requiring broad or symmetrical light distribution.

Linear high bay lights are often better for high-rack aisles, production lines and long rectangular spaces where the distribution should follow the geometry of the working area.

For a detailed comparison, read UFO vs Linear High Bay Lights for Warehouse Ceilings.

UFO High Bay Lights for Warehouse Projects

The same UFO high bay model will not produce the same result in every warehouse.

A project should consider:

  • Warehouse length and width
  • Mounting height
  • Target lux or foot-candles
  • Rack height and aisle width
  • Fixture spacing
  • Beam angle
  • Surface reflectance
  • Operating hours
  • Sensor zones
  • Input voltage

For preliminary fixture quantity planning, review the warehouse LED lighting calculator.

For larger projects, IES photometric files and lighting simulation should be used to verify fixture quantity, spacing, average illuminance and uniformity before installation.

UFO High Bay Lights for Factories and Industrial Buildings

Factory lighting can involve additional requirements beyond ceiling height. Dust, moisture, ambient temperature, vibration, machinery layout and continuous operating hours can influence fixture selection.

Standard UFO high bays are suitable for many normal industrial indoor environments, but unusually hot areas near ovens, furnaces, boilers or other process equipment may require dedicated high-temperature fixtures.

For industrial-specific selection, see our industrial high bay lighting fixtures page.
